HEADLINE: START FOR `CUTTINGS TO COMPOST` PLAN
A green community project involving door to door collection of garden waste to turn into compost was launched in Narborough.
The scheme, which if successful will spread to other villages in the county, has been set up by the parish council and community centre organisers. It is being operated by Forward and Futures, a charity based in Kings Lynn, providing employment for adults with learning difficulties.
The Slim your bin roadshow attended to promote composting and the wider benefits of waste reduction and recycling. The green waste material is being taken to a composting station at the community centre for maturing, and residents will be able to buy the finished product once the material is ready. The project , supported by Breckalnd council and an Environmental Acorn Grant, was first suggested during a village appraisal three years ago when villagers agreed that action was needed to promote green issues.
